Reservation of Seats

Reservation of seats is an additional railway service offered upon the issue of seat reservation vouchers, couchette supplements, sleeping car vouchers, or accompanied vehicle carriage document receipts.

Passengers shall occupy the reserved seats not later than 15 minutes after the train departure from the departure station for which the reservation is valid. Otherwise, the reservation will be considered invalid. Any additional expenses (telegram, telephone, and the like) related to the reservation shall be borne by the passenger.

Reservation of seats

Reservation of seats can be required on the day of issue of the ticket, or in advance, but not earlier that one month before the first day of the intended journey. The trains and coaches for which the reservation can be made are listed in the timetable. Seat reservation vouchers must be accompanied by valid tickets.

Couchette couches

Holders of valid II Class tickets shall pay a defined sleeping accommodation fee for the use of couchettes in the trains with couchette coaches and for the indicated route and type of train. JZ’s offer includes couchette coaches with cabins containing 4 and 6 couchettes.

If there are couchettes available, a couchette supplement can be obtained with a couchette-car attendant, as well. Passengers shall occupy the reserved seats not later than 15 minutes after the train departure from the departure station for which the reservation is valid. Children up to 4 years of age are carried free of charge if they share a couchette with the person who has a valid ticket.

Children 4 to 12 years of age will pay half the adult fare and the full amount for a couchette (if they use it separately).

Sleeping cars

Tickets for a defined relation and train class must be accompanied by the following types of tickets if you want to use the sleeping accommodation:

 

  • I Class ticket (1 berth) in single compartment
  • I Class ticket (2 berths) in double compartment
  • II Class ticket (3 berths) in tourist compartment

 

Children up to 4 years of age are carried free of charge and do not pay for sleeping vouchers if they share a couchette with the person who has a valid ticket. Children 4 to 12 years of age pay half the adult fare and the full amount for a couchette (if they use it separately).

Passengers with valid tickets and sleeping car vouchers shall occupy the reserved seats not later than 15 minutes after the train departure from the departure station for which the reservation is valid.

Refund of fares – charges, supplements and fees

Passengers can claim refund of a paid fare (outstanding amount) for an unused or partly used ticket. Claims for refund of fare shall be submitted to:

 

  • railway station ticket offices or, exceptionally (as instructed by the railways), authorized tourist agencies ticket offices
  • JZ Audit Accountant’s Department, division in charge


If the station is not open when the train arrives, claims should be submitted not later than on the first following working day of the station, or ticket office. In some other cases, it might be necessary to submit a written claim to JZ Audit Accountant’s Department, a division in charge. As enclosures to the claim, there shall be submitted: the ticket (validated by a competent railway station), and, if necessary, other documents proving that the claim and the amount of the claim are correct. 10% will be deducted from the amount refunded for railway charges (Article 12-15 ZUPZ), save for exceptional cases.
