| The procedure of reservation of seats includes reservation of seats, couchettes and berths. Reservation of seats is obligatory for passengers travelling in groups. Tour operators are obliged to announce group service to the departure station 30 days in advance. Reservation of seats can be requested upon purchase of tickets, or later (if the tickets have been bought in advance). It is obligatory, however, always to present the tickets for inspection.
Reservation receipt is valid for:
- the train and date for which the reservation has been issued
- the ticket valid for the train, class and route for which the reservation receipt has been issued
The seats in sleeping cars and couchette coaches can be reserved for trips from the departure station or an intermediate station, and the seats in seated coaches only for trips from the departure station. With the trains where the reservation of seats (indicated in the timetable as SR) is compulsory for the whole routing, boarding the train and travelling are allowed only to the passengers who reserved the seats in advance. Reservation of trips in such trains is organized from departure and intermediate stations.
Seat-reservation fee is not refundable. The passenger shall occupy the reserved seat not later than 15 minutes after the departure of the train from the station for which the reservation has been made; otherwise the reservation will be considered invalid.
In addition, telephone reservation of seats for intended journey, which passengers may require from the central booking office, is another option. The applications must be submitted minimum 7 days before the intended journey. Payments for seat-reservation fee and pick up of an appropriate reservation receipt shall be made within 3 (three) days after the date of telephone request for reservation.
Refund of fare, surcharges and charges
Claims for refund of fare will be settled by the issuing railway. In certain cases, the passenger can claim refund of a paid fare (outstanding amount) for an unused or partly used ticket. Claims for refund of fare shall be submitted to:
- railway station ticket offices or, exceptionally (as instructed by the railways), authorized tourist agencies ticket offices
- JZ Audit Accountant’s Department, division in charge
If the station is not open when the train arrives, claims should be submitted not later than on the first following working day of the station, or ticket office. In some other cases, it might be necessary to submit a written claim to a division in charge of JZ Audit Accountant’s Department. As enclosures to the claim, there shall be submitted: the ticket (validated by a competent railway station), and, if necessary, other documents proving that the claim and the amount of the claim are correct.
Travel agencies ticket offices do not refund the fares for fully or partially unused tickets, except for fully unused tickets bought on the same day at the same ticket office. 10% will be deducted from the amount refunded for railway charges (Article 12-15 ZUPZ), save for exceptional cases.
